How to improve quality of services at local level administrations – Case study of Administrative Districts in Slovenia

Administrative districts (AD) perform that part of administrative functions which are the most visible and sensitive for the citizens and their perception of the functioning of the state. If local level of administration isn’t functioning as it should be, then all other efforts to improve the image of the public administration are in vain. This perspective has been focused, when in 1997 Slovenian government launched a project aiming to review, unify and informatise basic administrative processes carried out in Administrative Districts. All these has been considered as an important step towards improvement of performance and quality of services of local level administration in Slovenia. In the paper we will describe main aims of the project, experiences and the results achieved so far.
